One of the things I love most about journalism is the interview process. Best case scenario, I’m sitting across the table from a subject, and we’re sharing a coffee or kombucha somewhere in Uptown St. Augustine. Conducting an interview in a Davis Shores backyard and then sticking around for dinner probably takes the cake, though.
With the advent of videoconferencing, meeting via Zoom to chat has won out these last few years. That’s how agriculture guru Angela TenBroeck and I first got acquainted. There’s a thrill to the mystery of first meetings. If we ask the right questions, we’ll soon find that the people around us are fascinating. We all have a compelling story. My meeting with Angela had me wondering if she might end up making the cover. Sometime after the digital publication of my article, the editor wanted to schedule a photo shoot with Angela. By late June, a hard copy of the executive edition of Evolve Magazine arrived in my mailbox - and there she was gracing the cover. Print’s perseverance in the digital age is something to celebrate.
