Good Food//Good Vibes

In 2007, I discovered a raw vegan restaurant called The Present Moment Cafe. It was a one of a kind place to get away from the daily hustle and bustle in favor of a meaningful pause over energizing food. My friends and I often met up there, discovering kombucha together and comparing notes on its fizzy acidity. My brother was seven years old back then, and we celebrated the victory that was zucchini noodles dressed in an alfredo alternative - friendly to his dairy and wheat allergies.

Today, The Present Moment’s future is uncertain. They have given way to a new eatery called Buena Onda - a scratch kitchen curating vegetarian and vegan dishes. So homage is being paid to their predecessor. In fact, their menu boasts a dish called “The Present Moment Bowl”. Definitely worth a try with its well rounded servings of raw kale, avocado, lentils and quinoa.

My first experience at Buena Onda found me fasting for about 16 hours. By 12:30, I was feeling light on my feet, but nowhere near hangry. The open faced tomato and goat cheese sandwich caught my eye. I paired it with a chai rose collagen booster latte (because we’re trying to master eternal life, right...? Right) Finally, what sort of sweet tooth would I be without throwing in chocolate pepas with dulce de leche and coconut shavings? (Pictured above)

It’s revolutionary when a meal lifts your mood and energizes you rather than making you lethargic. Between the perfectly toasted bread, fresh greens, olive tapenade, juicy tomato slices and goat cheese...my empty stomach was happy to take in all that savory goodness.

The chai and pastry complemented each other perfectly. Buena Onda is living up to all the buzz and love whirring around on local socials. It also lives up to its name - which when translated means “good vibes.” The space's chill ambiance is already attracting repeat diners.

It can’t be overstated how crucial it is for the staff of a restaurant to have people skills. The two women behind the counter were down to earth, hospitable and knowledgeable about the menu. So glad I stopped by today! Til next time :)
